The CBFA is led by a twelve-member board.  Seven of the board positions are elected by the membership.  Each year two new members of the board are elected at the annual conference for a three-year term.  After his or her first year on the board, one of those individuals is chosen to become the vice-chair/ chair-elect of the board; that person then becomes the chair of the board, and then serves an additional year as the immediate past chair.  The year in which each board member’s term ends is given in parentheses.

Five board positions are appointed by the elected members of the board:  the secretary, the treasurer, the senior editor, the program chair, and the director of marketing. The seven elected members plus the secretary and treasurer make up the voting membership of the board of directors.

Dr. Julia Underwood, Chair (2013)

junderwoodDr. Underwood, is a professor in Azusa Pacific University’s School of Business and Management. Her specialty areas include assessing the impact of feedback and follow-up on customer satisfaction, and identifying and amending failure traits within women. Her industry experience with corporations such as BizBuyer.com and George S. May International enhance her expertise in the areas of the advancement of women in business, customer satisfaction, and organizational effectiveness.  Dr. Underwood earned a Ph.D. and an MS in organizational psychology from the California School of Professional Psychololgy and a BA in speech communications from California State University, Fullerton.

Dr. Terry Truitt, Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect (2014)

Truitt in OfficeDr. Terry Truitt, in his role as dean, provides visionary leadership for the Falls School of Business at Anderson University.  Through his tenure as a finance faculty member, MBA director, and in his current position as dean, Dr. Truitt has helped Anderson University serve as a good neighbor to the greater central Indiana region.  In addition to the development of strong academic programs, Dr. Truitt has worked to create venues whereby students, business leaders, and government officials can work together on common concerns.


Dr. Margie LaShaw, Past Chair (2012)

Margie LaShaw came to Whitworth University in fall 1988. She earned her DBA with a MargieLaShawmajor in accounting at Anderson University. She earned her Masters in Accounting from Washington State University in 1988. She also holds a B.S. in Business from the University of Idaho and is a licensed C.P.A. in Washington State.

Margie's professional experience before coming to Whitworth was in public accounting where she primarily worked on audit staffs but also spent some time in tax departments.

Margie's primary teaching assignments are in the financial accounting courses, both the introduction and intermediate levels, but also ventures into other business areas. Her interest in research lies in the teaching of accounting, church financial reporting and nonprofit accounting issues, along with interdisciplinary applications of courses. She is a member of the American Accounting Association, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, American Women's Society of Certified Public Accountants, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and Washington Society of CPAs, where she is involved in the statewide committee for Accounting Careers and Development.

To help her obtain practical experience to apply in the classroom, she assists her husband on the management and operation of a farm in Eastern Washington. Many of her interests lie in farming issues and the ability to maintain the family farm into the 21st century. She is also involved in Washington Women for Agriculture whose mission is to educate others on farm issues.

Dr. Larry Sayler (2012)

resize_imageDr. Larry Sayler is an Associate Professor of Management at Greenville College in southern Illinois and teaches primarily accounting courses.  He has taught for ten years.  Larry earned his DBA in finance from Anderson University in 2005, and received his MBA at Wharton.  His undergraduate degree is in Economics, from Carleton College.  During 2009 he earned his CMA (Certified Management Accountant) certification.  Of 4,000 applicants world-wide, Larry received the highest composite score in the world for those taking the CMA tests during the winter 20009 test cycle.  He regularly attends CBFA annual conferences and has had articles published in both JBIB and CBAR.

Prior to teaching, Larry worked in a variety of accounting and finance positions.  He worked for General Electric for 13 years, finishing his time at GE as chief financial officer for a GE manufacturing subsidiary in southern California.  Prior to teaching he served as CFO at Greenville College for five years.

Larry attended Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey’ Clown College and has maintained a life-long interest in the circus and clowning.  During the summer of 2009 he presented a paper at the Circus Historical Society.

Dr. Becky Havens (2013)

Becky Portrait pinkDr. Becky Havens is Professor of Economics and formerly Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Professional Studies at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU). She has been professor of economics and mathematics at PLNU for 24 years and was a college dean for 11 of those years. She holds a PhD in economics from the University of California San Diego (UCSD), and her areas of study are women and globalization, the feminization of poverty, and the economics of education.

 


Dr. Brett Andrews (2014)

brettandrewsDr. Brett Andrews is the Vice-President for Academic Program Development at Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville, OK. While at OWU, Brett has served in several roles, including Dean of the School of Business and Vice-President of Adult & Graduate Studies. Before coming to OWU in 2003, Brett served at LeTourneau University and Oral Roberts University. He holds a PhD in management from Walden University, an MBA from Oral Roberts University, and a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Northeastern State University (OK). Brett and his wife, Tammy, have two children, Ryder and Kyra. Brett serves on the CBFA’s Strategic Planning Committee.

Dr. David Burns (2014)

burns1Dr. David Burns is Professor of Marketing and Director of Faculty Programs at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. Before coming to Xavier in 2003, David served as Youngstown State University, Purdue University, the University of Akron, and Robert Morris College. He earned his Doctor of Business Administration degree from Kent State University, his MBA from Cleveland State University, and his BS from the University of Akron. Dr. Burns has an extensive publishing record, with over 70 journal articles and several book chapters. He has served in leadership roles in the American Collegiate Retailing Association and the American Marketing Association.

Dr. Jim Dalton, Treasurer (2013)

profiles_dalton 150wDr. Dalton serves as the Chair of the BBA Department at Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) in Mount Vernon, Ohio.  The BBA Department serves undergraduate adult students throughout the State of Ohio.  As a Professor of Accounting and as a Certified Public Accountant his primary teaching responsibilities involve teaching accounting to undergraduate and graduate students.  In addition to teaching responsibilities for MVNU he has taught CPA Review for over 20 years, first with a national review course and more recently with two partners in the MDS CPA Review Course.  Dr. Dalton has responsibility for writing, publishing and teaching CPA Review materials in the areas of financial, managerial, governmental, and not-for-profit accounting. Work experience outside teaching includes working as a Controller in the corporate America, as Controller for a university, and as the Business Administrator for the largest Nazarene church in the United States.

Dr. Robert H. (Bob) Roller, Secretary (2014)

Bob 150wDr. Roller is the Dean of the Jetter School of Business at Mt. Vernon Nazarene University in Mount Vernon, Ohio. He formerly served as the president of the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE); Dean of the School of Business at LeTourneau University in Longview, TX; Chair of the Division of Business at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY; and as a faculty member at Kennesaw State University in Georgia and Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK.

Dr. Roller was the 2004 recipient of the CBFA’s Richard C. Chewning Award for Excellence in Biblical Integration and the 2011 recipient of the Barnabas Award.

Dr. Kevin Hughes, Program Chair (2014)

khughesDr. Kevin Hughes is Chair of the Graduate Business Department and Professor of Management at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Mount Vernon, OH, where he has served in a variety of positions since 1988, including five years as an admissions counselor and seven years in financial aid. He earned a Ph.D. from Capella University, an MA from the University of Phoenix, and a BA from Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Dr. Hughes has been active in Work and Witness trips to Venezuela, Russia, Argentina, the Philippines, Mexico, Belize, Ghana, Jamaica and Mozambique. Dr. Hughes was appointed program chair following the Mount Vernon CBFA conference, for which he served as the conference chair.

Dr. Jeff Fawcett, Director of Marketing (2013)

Jeff Fawcett  picture 150wDr. Fawcett is Professor of Marketing and Dean of the School of Business at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana, where he moved in 2011. Previously Dr. Fawcett served as a marketing professor at Cedarville University, where he served as the conference host for the 2006 CBFA conference. Dr. Fawcett previously served as an elected member of the CBFA board from 2006-10, including serving as chair of the board.
