FAITH IN PRACTICE: THE DIALOGICAL CONFERENCE
Teaching Business Applications of Righteousness
FEBRUARY 8, 2019
AZUSA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY, AZUSA, CA
When the righteous prevail the city rejoices. - Proverbs 11:10
The Christian Business Faculty Association Faith in Practice Conference advances the strategic goals of the CBFA through faculty development in classroom faith integration and scholarship. A dialogical conference turns “upside down” the activities of a traditional professional conference through the organic construction of knowledge and collaboration. A dialogical approach to faith integration achieves a convergence between biblical texts and discipline-specific knowledge using faculty dialogue and contemplation. High-impact learning and shared meaning are created by a group of faculty who complete required preparation prior to the conference, interact during the conference guided by carefully designed activities around a central biblical passage, and actively engage in a fast, free flowing, “hot” learning environment. Takeaways from this approach include new classroom exercises deeply bounded in scripture and critically analyzed by other professors, which integrate faith into business disciplinary content and new ideas for faith integration scholarship.
Traditional Vs Dialogical Conference
Before the conference, participants will prepare by reading two or three commentaries and/or theological perspectives on the conference passage (Proverbs 11) and will spend time reflecting and writing about how their own discipline relates to these verses. Conference preparation time should not exceed five hours.
