CBFA is led by a thirteen-member board.  Each year nominations are accepted for new members.  Election of new members happens at the annual conference.  Officer positions include: Chair, Chair-Elect, Past Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer.  Board members also serve as the Program Chair, Director of Publications, Director of Conferences and Director of Marketing.

CBFA Board Members

Dr. Terry Truitt, Chair (2020)

Teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels, coupled with seven years of practical experience with Zale Corporation, prepared Dr. Truitt for an exciting career at Anderson University. Undergraduate majors in accounting, economics, and management, along with his professional designation as a certified management accountant, provide him a strong technical base for business education. Earning an MBA from the University of North Alabama in 1986, Dr. Truitt completed a doctoral program in finance at Mississippi State University in 1996. He served as a finance and economics professor prior to serving as the MBA director. Dr. Truitt has served as dean for the Falls School of Business since 2003. Dr. David Houghton, Past Chair (2020)

Dr. David Houghton serves as the Dean of the Paul Dickinson College of Business at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Before his appointment at OBU, he was a marketing professor and the department chair at Charleston Southern University. He served in a similar capacity at Northwest Nazarene University prior to his service at CSU. Houghton’s research focuses on a wide range of topics in consumer psychology, managerial decision making and business ethics. His research has appeared in a number of journals, including Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Psychology & Marketing, Marketing Letters, Journal of Consumer Psychology, and Advances in Consumer Research. He serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Biblical Integration in Business and the Society for Consumer Psychology. Along with Dr. Craig Walker, Houghton serves as a co-advisor for OBU’s Enactus team. Houghton is passionate about helping business students view their careers as a calling and as viewing business as mission. He is a champion for Enactus because it is a powerful way to integrate faith and learning at OBU. Houghton and his wife have three children. He enjoys serving at Heritage Baptist Church in Shawnee, reading, and playing the bagpipes.

Dr. Kevin Hughes, Secretary (2020)

Dr. Kevin Hughes is the Dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies and Professor of Management at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Mount Vernon, OH, where he has served in a variety of positions since 1988, including five years as an admissions counselor and seven years in financial aid before joining the faculty in 1999. He earned a Ph.D. from Capella University, an MA from the University of Phoenix, and a BA from Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Dr. Hughes enjoys teaching Global Business and participating in international construction projects for the Church of the Nazarene. Dr. Hughes served as CBFA Program Chair from 2011 to 2017. Kevin was appointed as the CBFA Board Secretary in 2017.

Dr. Margie LaShaw, Treasurer (2021)

Dr. Margie LaShaw joined the economics and business department at Whitworth University in 1988 where she stayed until her retirement in 2017. She retired as an Associate Professor of Economics and Business at Whitworth. Her primary teaching area was in accounting, but she also taught management courses during her tenure. Even in retirement, Dr. LaShaw continues to serve CBFA. She also enjoys spending time and serving as the office manager and accountant on her husband’s and her farm in the state of Washington.

Dr. Robert L. (Lenie) Holbrook, Program Chair (2020)

Lenie Holbrook is an associate professor in the Management Department at Ohio University, where he has served since 2000. Prior to that, he spent three years at the University of Central Arkansas. He earned a B.S. in Business Administration and Computer Science from Union University, an M.B.A. (Management) from the University of Memphis, and a Ph.D. (Business Administration) from the University of Illinois. Holbrook teaches courses in management, organizational behavior, decision making, and creativity. His early research focused on organizational justice with publications in Social Justice Research, the Journal of Organizational Behavior, and Human Resource Management Review. More recently, his interests focus on pedagogy and leadership with publications in the Journal of Management Education and Management Teaching Review. He has also published a variety of teaching-related supplements with John Wiley. Holbrook is an active member of Lancaster First Baptist Church, where he leads an adult life group, serves on the finance committee, and helps with children’s check in/security. He and his wife, Susan, have been happily married for more than 30 years. They have a son, Adam, who will be pursuing a ministry degree at Union University beginning Fall 2018.

Dr. Kent Saunders, Director of Publications (2020)

Dr. Saunders is a Professor of Finance and Economics at Anderson University (SC). He earned his BS in Economics from Ball State University, a MA in Economics from Clemson University, and a PhD in Applied Economics from Clemson University. Before joining the Anderson faculty in 2014, Kent taught at Anderson University (IN), LeMoyne College and Cumberland University. Dr. Saunders served as editor of the Christian Business Academy Review from inception until 2015. Kent was honored by the CBFA with the Chewning Award in 2012.

Dr. Julia Underwood, Director of Conferences (2022)

Dr. Saunders is a Professor of Finance and Economics at Anderson University (SC). He earned his BS in Economics from Ball State University, a MA in Economics from Clemson University, and a PhD in Applied Economics from Clemson University. Before joining the Anderson faculty in 2014, Kent taught at Anderson University (IN), LeMoyne College and Cumberland University. Dr. Saunders served as editor of the Christian Business Academy Review from inception until 2015. Kent was honored by the CBFA with the Chewning Award in 2012.

Dr. Ryan Ladner, Director of Marketing (2022)

Dr. Ryan serves as Associate Professor of Marketing and Department Head of Graduate Business at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, AR. Dr. Ladner has a D.B.A. from George Fox University, a M.A. from Liberty University, a M.B.A. from Mississippi College, and a B.S.B.A. from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Dr. Jenny Dose (2020

Dr. Jenny Dose grew up in Toledo, OH and Pittsburgh. She attended Wittenberg University where she double majored in psychology and business. She went on to receive her Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from The Ohio State University. Prior to coming to Messiah in 2000, Dr. Dose taught in the Economics and Management Department at the University of Minnesota-Morris, a well-regarded public liberal arts college. She likes the fact that Messiah is a Christian College and that it is not as cold here as in Minnesota! Dr. Dose teaches courses in the area of Human Resources Management, including a cross-cultural study tour to the Netherlands in which students study Dutch management practices and work on a team project with Dutch students through business site visits. In addition to her teaching experience, Dr. Dose has experience in performance appraisal, selection, organizational development, and strategic planning consulting for educational, healthcare, and insurance organizations. Her research specialties include group decision making, selection, and work values. She has published articles in Human Resources Management Review, Human Resource Development Quarterly, Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, Employee Rights and Responsibilities Journal, and Applied Psychology: An International Review, and Group Dynamics. She has also published a study guide to accompany a popular Principles of Management textbook.

Dr. Troy Bethards (2021)

Dr. Troy Bethards serves as the Dean for the Southwest Baptist University College of Business and Computer Science. He earned a B.S. in Economics and Business Administration from SBU, an M.B.A. in Finance frrom Missouri State University and a D.B.A. in Finance from Anderson University. Prior to pursuing a career in higher education, Dr. Bethards worked as an Investment Advisor Representative, a Commodities Broker and a Mutual Funds Representative. In 2008, he received the Orien B. Hendrex Distinguised Teacher Award at SBU and in 2015, he received the life Beautiful Award. Dr. Bethards is affiliated with ACBSP and has been an evaluator since 2015. He has also served as an extenral program evaluator for three different institutions. His involvement with CBFA began in 2003.

Dr. Melanie Peddicord (2021)

After graduating with a BA in Accounting from Anderson University in 1994, she worked several years for Ernst & Young LLP in Indianapolis where her audit clients included health-care, insurance, retail, and not-for-profit organizations. For the last 15 years, Professor Peddicord has held several positions in the financial management department at The Finish Line, Inc., most recently as the manager of financial reporting. She has also taught adjunct in the MBA program at the Falls School of Business. She is excited to be able to share her public and corporate accounting and management experiences with students as they prepare for their call to service in the accounting profession. Professor Peddicord has an MBA from Anderson University and is an active CPA. She and her husband, Todd, have three children. Melanie Peddicord has served at Anderson University since 2011.

Dr. John Duncan (2022)

John Duncan is the Dean for the College of Business and Entrepreneurship at North Greenville University. He has served CBFA over 20 years in a number of positions including board member, vice-chair, chair and past chair. He has also been a reviewer, presenter and session moderator for the CBFA annual conferences. John holds a BBA in Accounting and an MBA from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and he received a Ph.D. in Accountancy from the University of Mississippi. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in South Carolina and a Certified Kingdom Advisor®. Dr. Duncan’s prior academic leadership roles include serving as Associate Dean at Anderson University, Dean at Charleston Southern University, Dean and Director of the Church Finance Institute at William Carey University, and Department Chair at Mississippi College.
John is married to the former Susan Ganann of Carthage, Mississippi and they have two adult sons, Daniel and Drew. CONTACT

Dr. Anita Satterlee (2022)

Anita Satterlee is the Dean for the College of Online Programs within the College of Business at Liberty University. She has an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Liberty, an M.A., from Webster and a B.S. from Southern Florida College. Prior to transitioning into academics, Anita worked as a district manager for a hardware chain in southern Florida where she had oversight of 20 stores. She was also on staff at the U.S. Army War College before going to Liberty.
